not anymore bro,
Today Cuban stay in Nandopsis, while Moto move to Parachromis species.
But, I do agree with you that they have some similarity in the way they look.
Not behavior, I kept both
Frank, they where same genus, just recently, even if you look at the page from Cichlid magazine I post couple days ago, you'll see your favorite Loisellie still Nandopsis at that time:), but you good eye:)
Alex, I went right to google after my post, like a true fish geek, and yes, I saw lots of references to Nandopis Dovii and Nandopis Motaguense, etc, mostly on older sites/posts. So, if they "used to be" the same genus, there is at least a moderate chance that they could cross in an aquarium. The fish dont know that scientists re-classified them :) They must be similar enough. John, maybe you will have mega-nasty hybrid babies - or maybe they will murder each other - either way, there will be action! :)
I find uncoaxed hybridization (like this one would be if it happened) to be really interesting and unique. I would keep offspring and probably be glad that my fish "found a way." I do however beleive it is irresponsible to forcefully breed and/or sell hybrids. I've seen too many LFSs with no interesting cichlids, yet an overcrowded tank of Blood Parrots and $200 Flowerhorns.
Though.. I have a soft spot for Christie & Joe's flowerhorn ... reminds me of one I kept about 5 years ago before I knew much about fish at all. My first fish, because "Flowerhorns are cool" :)
Alex, I found a vid of a lousellei that looks like the same volor variant as mine - also from Honduras. I posted the pic / link here. Check it out if you have a minute.
I have this fish as well. This fish is very aggressive. I was told it was a
