Lake Malawi

The Lake

Lake Malawi is the ninth largest lake in the world.

Natural habitat

The natural habitat in Lake Malawi is a mixture of wide, open sandy areas and rocky zones.  A lot of species, commonly known as "Mbunas" have specialized their diet on the periphyton that grows on stones.

Here are a few impressions from the natural habitat:

  • Temperature: 23-28 °C = 76-80 °F
  • pH 7.8 - 8.5
  • medium to hard water (GH 7 KH 10-12)
