Cross Breeding?

Hi all, I was just wondering how common cross breeding between Cichlids is? I have 1 Electric Yellow Lab in my 6x2 tank with 7+ other types of Cichlids such as:

# Johanni
# Venustus
# Red Jewel
# Kribensis
# Auratus
# Blue Acara
# Electric Blue

My Yellow Lab has just spat out her fry in my growout tank. Who do you think the father is? Does this happen often? When should I seperate her from the fry? Thanks, Matt

Maybe one of the melanochromis..johanni or Auratus.

A female without a mate can lay eggs, which do not get fertilized, and after a few days...spit them out.

Cross breeding can occur between closely related cichlid groups (for example any mbuna breed with any other mbuna especially when there are no others of its species in the tank). Crossbreeding with a member of the same genus but different species is more likely than one of a different genus but not assured.

Cichlids can even crossbreed with others even less closely related (haps X mbuna or peacocks X mbuna; though that's less likely).

The probability of crossbreeding with cichlids from other geographic areas or unrelated groups is typically not possible.
